How compatibility is read
The most common traditional patterns are:
- Three Harmonies 三合: four groups of three signs considered naturally supportive.
- Six Harmonies 六合: six one-to-one pairings often described as especially cooperative.
- Six Conflicts 六冲: six opposite pairings that are traditionally read as more tense or challenging.

Common mistakes
- Using compatibility as a final judgment. It is a symbolic reading, not a rule for real relationships.
- Ignoring the element layer. Animal signs are only one part of the traditional reading.
- Using the wrong sign for January or February birthdays. Always confirm the Lunar New Year boundary first.
